New York Regional Association of Internal Medicine Educators (NY RAIME) 2024 Meeting

We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to attend in person. The face-to-face interactions, networking, and hands-on sessions offer invaluable experiences that can't be fully replicated virtually. However, we understand that some faculty may be unable to travel, so we are pleased to offer a virtual option for those who wish to participate in faculty development remotely. This ensures that all educators can benefit from the cutting-edge insights and collaborative spirit that define NY RAIME, regardless of their location. We look forward to your participation and to fostering the growth and excellence of our community together.

The in person meeting will be held at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine at 231 W. 124th St. NY, NY. For virtual attendees, the Zoom link will be sent closer to the meeting date.

At the completion of the course, participants will be able to effectively:

  • integrate AI-driven adaptive learning platforms into their curricula, utilize AI simulations for hands-on training, and apply AI data analytics to assess and enhance student performance;
  • incorporate the latest guidelines and best practices from NYACP and GNYHA into their clinical practice, enhancing patient care and compliance with current standards;
  • integrate POCUS into their clinical practice, conduct common ultrasound-guided procedures, and interpret ultrasound findings accurately;
  • identify, create, and utilize digital tools to facilitate teaching;
  • develop and implement structed remediation strategies for learners and integrate professionalism into the educational curriculum; and
  • identify various career pathways in artificial intelligence and bioinformatics in medical education.

Implementation of Guidelines for Respiratory Isolation and Restrictions to Reduce Transmission of Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Community Settings in New York State

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) will be holding a joint webinar on September 12, 2024, from 10:00AM-11:30AM.

The  panelists, Joseph Burzynski, MD, MPH, from NYC DOHMH, Davin Hatsengate, MD, MPH, & Delia Easton, PhD, from NYSDOH will cover the background and prior practice of isolation for TB patients, the development process for the new guidelines, the evidence base supporting the guidelines, the recommendations of the guidelines, and the implementation plan for the New York State.

These new guidelines will emphasize the need for individualized assessment for each patient and clinical situation, the need to consider benefits and harms of RIR for patients and communities, and updated guidance for using the duration of effective anti-tuberculous therapy (rather than bacteriological testing such as sputum smears) to assess clinical infectiousness.

All providers are encouraged to attend since tuberculosis remains an active concern in New York State, and rates of TB have been rising following the coronavirus pandemic.

For any questions or concerns, please reach out to:
NYC DOHMH TB Hotline (844) 713-0559
NYSDOH Bureau of TB Control (518) 474-7000
