Topic:  Are you Baffled by NAFLD?

Dr. Robert Brown received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College, his medical degree from New York University and his master’s in public health from the University of California, Berkeley. After completing his medical degree, he fulfilled internships in medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Brown served as an attending physician at Moffit-Long Hospital, University of California Medical Center, San Francisco and North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, followed by continuing attending physician roles in New York, which began at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia Irving University Medical Center in 1998 and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2000. He was an associate professor at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons from 1998 to 2008 and the Frank Cardile Professor of Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics (in Surgery) from 2008 to 2015. At Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. Brown has been a professor of medicine since 2015 and served as vice chair of mentoring and academic development in the Department of Medicine from 2018 to 2021.
Dr. Brown has co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles published in leading, peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, the American Journal of Transplantation, Clinical Infectious Diseases, and JAMA Surgery. He has also held editorial and editorial board roles for several premier journals in the hepatology field, including his current position as Editor-In-Chief of Liver Transplantation since February 2020.
Dr. Brown has received numerous awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Transplant Physicians, the Senior Attending Teaching Award at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the American Liver Foundation New York chapter Physician of the Year. He is co-founder and vice president of the Empire Liver Foundation, which works in collaboration with the New York City Department of Health to improve the healthcare of patients with liver diseasesDr. Brown has received several major grants from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for liver disease research. He was recently awarded a grant supporting Weill Cornell Medicine as a scientific and data collection center within the Liver Cirrhosis Network. The grant will expand collaborations with colleagues at multiple centers focused on conducting basic, translational and clinical research into new diagnostic and treatment approaches for patients with cirrhosis. Dr. Brown will also continue his research into improving outcomes for patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases facing issues related to disparities and access, funded by a philanthropic gift.

Dr. Aditya Chandrasekhar is a General Internist with a passion for Healthcare Innovation and Public Health. He obtained his medical degree from Grant Medical College in Mumbai, India and completed his residency in internal medicine at University of Massachusetts Medical School. He also obtained a Master’s in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Chandrasekhar has practiced in Primary Care for over a decade at Fenway Health, an FQHC focused on delivering care to the LGBT+ community. He splits his time between clinical care and healthcare innovation by serving as the Medical Director of a public health startup called Primary.Health based out of California- and is a Catalyst Fellow at MIT. He is a former Linde fellow in Primary Care Leadership at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and serves as the clinical policy advisor to the Massachusetts Health Connector.

 Dr. Chandrasekhar is active within Massachusetts Medical Society and the American College of Physicians.

Topic:  ID Pitfalls and Pearls

Dr. Elisa I. Choi, MD, FACP, FIDSA, is a current Regent of the ACP Board of Regents (the fiduciary Board of ACP), the immediate past Governor of the MA ACP Chapter, and a Past Chair of the Board of Governors of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Choi was the first woman, and only Asian American female, to serve as Governor of the Massachusetts ACP Chapter, and she was the first woman of Asian descent to be elected as ACP Chair of the Board of Governors. Dr. Choi has received the MA ACP Chapter Leadership award, and the Helen Taussig Award for Outstanding Contributions to Advancing the Careers of Women in Medicine. Dr. Choi was awarded the ACP 2024 Richard Neubauer award for Advocacy in Internal Medicine, for her sustained and enduring efforts on behalf of ACP’s advocacy and legislative priorities.

During her MA ACP Chapter Governorship, Dr. Choi launched a Leadership Development for Women in Medicine initiative, a JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Committee, and IMG (International Medical Graduate) council/committee. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2019 Unsung Hero Award at the Massachusetts Asian American and Pacific Islander Civil Rights Forum, the AMA Inspiration Award, the AMWA Inspire Award. Dr. Choi is a dual Board-certified Internal Medicine and infectious Disease physician (ID fellowship trained), who is in clinical practice in the greater Boston area. Dr. Choi holds numerous leadership roles in her organization, including as a Chief of Internal Medicine. She also serves as faculty at Harvard Medical School, where she is a clinical educator, preceptor, and advisor, for medical students and resident physicians at Harvard Medical School affiliated teaching hospitals.

She received her medical degree with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. Dr. Choi completed her internal medicine residency and chief medical residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, and received her infectious disease fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Choi has served ACP in many leadership capacities for the past 15 years. Dr. Choi’s areas of interest include governance and strategic planning, medical education, clinical infectious diseases and HIV, cultural competency in clinical care, health disparities of Asian/Asian American/Pan Asian communities and other communities of color and minoritized groups, leadership development for women, mentorship, and health policy and advocacy.

Dr. Colleen Christmas Headshot

Dr. Colleen Christmas is a fellowship trained geriatrician whose clinical focus is on primary care of older adults in the office and home settings. She is also a clinician educator who has led important educational programs both at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Christmas obtained her medical degree at the University of Connecticut, completed her residency at the Medical College of Virginia, and completed her fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Dr. Christmas is the current Governor of the Maryland Chapter of the American College of Physicians and received the ACP Herbert S. Waxman Award for outstanding medical student education in 2020.

Topic:  The Cardiovascular Effects of Sleep Disorder Breathing

Dr. Robert Faillace is a nationally recognized innovative leader, scholar, researcher, teacher, and clinician with an outstanding track record of accomplishments in quality improvement, innovation, and medical leadership. Immediately prior to joining New York City Health and Hospitals Jacobi Medical Center/North Central Bronx Hospital as the Chair of Medicine in 2014, Dr. Faillace served as the Director of Cardiovascular Quality and Innovation for the Geisinger Healthcare System and Medical Director for Geisinger’s Flagship Hospital, The Hospital for Advanced Medicine.  

While at Geisinger, Dr. Faillace was the lead physician for the development and implementation of Geisinger’s system-wide inpatient and outpatient comprehensive improvement program to optimally treat and manage heart failure patients known as the Proven Care Heart Failure Program.   This program was used as a model of state-of -the-art care for heart failure patients for 15 healthcare systems throughout the United States.  Dr. Faillace previously served as Director of World-Wide Research for the Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Company prior to becoming Chairman of Cardiovascular Services (Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, and Cardiac Anesthesia) and Physician Director for the Cardiovascular Service Line for the St. Joseph’s Healthcare System in Paterson and Wayne, New Jersey.
During his tenure as Chair of Cardiovascular Services Dr. Faillace led center-wide teams at St. Joseph’s to achieve over 30 national and state awards including:
•    The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Prize for the Women’s Heart Center
•    Women’s Heart Foundation Medical Excellence Award
•    The Massachusetts General Hospital Disparities Leadership Program Best Overall Project for the St. Joseph’s MR CHAMMP Hypertension Program
•    Association for Black Cardiologists National ACTS Award to Eliminate Healthcare Disparities
•    The Joint Commission Heart Failure Certification Award (the eighth in the USA)
In recognition for his close collaboration with nursing, team-building skills, and work for patient advocacy, Dr. Faillace received the 2009 Apple Award from the Institute of Nursing.

While serving as Chair of Medicine at Jacobi/NCB and remaining clinically active on the Jacobi Inpatient Medicine, Cardiology Consult, and the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Services, Dr. Faillace has worked collaboratively with Administration, Physician and Nursing Leaders and Faculty to oversee, support and contribute to:
-    Expansion of Cardiovascular, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine, Infectious Disease/HIV, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Palliative Care and Hospitalist Medicine Services
-    The development and implementation of Jacobi’s PCI, PCI STEMI, ECMO and Advanced Heart Failure Programs  
-    The attainment of excellence in Cardiovascular Medicine as evidenced by multiple national AHA GWTG Gold awards for both Jacobi and NCB
-    Nurse /Physician Patient Centered Collaborative Bedside Rounds in the Jacobi CICU  
-    Implementation of an Advanced GI Endoscopy Program
-    A new Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program
-    A new North Central Bronx Medical Residency Program

Dr. John Hall graduated from The SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 1992 and completed his Internal Medicine Residency, including an Internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology, in 1996.

Dr. Hall is Managing Partner at R&B Medical Group, Internal Medicine and Obstetric Medicine practice in Buffalo, NY. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Hall is passionate about teaching Medical Students and Residents in both Internal Medicine and Obstetric Medicine, mainly directed through the Catholic Health System in Buffalo at Sisters of Charity Hospital. He is also on Faculty at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Buffalo, as an Associate Professor of Medicine and a Clinical Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Hall serves as an Associate Clerkship Director for Internal Medicine at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. As a member of the Internal Medicine Residency Clinical Competency Committee, he is responsible for Resident education in Women’s Health.

Much of Dr. Hall’s career is related to involvement in Obstetric Medicine, which is dedicated to caring for the medically complex pregnant patient. Dr. Hall continues to be involved in Obstetric Medicine teaching and research. He previously served on the North American Society of Obstetric Medicine Executive Committee from 2008-2011. He is a current member of the NASOM Academic and Research Subcommittee.

Dr. Hall holds a Certificate in Travel Health through the International Society of Travel Medicine. This intersects with Internal Medicine and Obstetric Medicine as it relates to his interest in the care of the pregnant traveler.

Dr. Hall is Governor for the Upstate Region of the NY Chapter ACP.

Dr. Luis Marcos Headshot

Topic:  Lyme Disease and Tick Borne Illness

Dr. Luis Marcos is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at Stony Brook Medicine and Director of the Tick-Borne Disease Clinic. Dr. Marcos is a physician-scientist on tick-borne diseases for Suffolk County, the county with the highest absolute number of Lyme and Babesia cases, among other tick-borne diseases. Dr. Marcos is the Principal Investigator of several studies, most prominently a funded-study from the Department of Defense on  Lyme disease. Dr. Marcos' goal is to study Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome as well as immune response of emerging infectious diseases.   A complete list of Dr. Marco’s published work can be found here.

Topic:  Update in Anit-Hypertensive Therapy

Dr. Naveed Masani is Assistant Professor of Medicine at SUNY Stonybrook and is Attending Nephrologist, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at  NYU Langone Hospital Long Island.

Dr. Masani serves as Co-Chair for the NYU Langone Hospital Long Island, Department of Medicine’s Quality Improvement Committee since 2010. Dr. Masani is currently Medical Director for the Outpatient Dialysis Unit at NYU Langone Hospital Long Island in Mineola and is Acting Medical Director for Dialysis Unit at Glen Gariff Rehabilitation Facility since 2011. Dr. Masani is Board Certified in both ABIM Nephrology and ABIM Internal Medicine. Dr. Masani has written several publications and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of multiple other organizations.

Dr. Masani earned his Medical Degree from State University of NY at Stony Brook and completed his residency and fellowship at NYU Winthrop. Dr. Masani won the NYACP Laureate Award in 2015 and is immediate Past-Chair of the NYACP’s Education Committee.

D. Kelly Ramsey Headshot

Topic:  HIV and Primary Care

Dr. Kelly S. Ramsey is a board certified internal medicine and addiction medicine physician who has treated substance use disorder since 2004. She worked as Medical Director of an academic center-based opioid treatment program (OTP) in the South Bronx before working for nearly a decade for a large federally qualified health center (FQHC) in the Hudson Valley where she created and grew a medication for addiction treatment (MAT) program for opioid use disorder (OUD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD) to 10 sites and 1500 patients. More recently, Dr. Ramsey worked as the Chief of Medical Services at the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), in a policy, regulatory, and clinical role.

Dr. Ramsey currently works as an Addiction Medicine and Harm Reduction Consultant as well as providing low threshold clinical care and clinical supervision in addiction medicine in three drug user health hubs in New York. She has provided expert advice to the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) AIDS Institute and their Office of Drug User Health (ODUH), serving on numerous committees for about 15 years, providing expertise in addiction medicine, harm reduction, HIV care, and hepatitis C (HCV) care. Dr. Ramsey has provided clinical teaching, technical assistance, and led learning collaboratives and ECHO programs in addiction medicine, harm reduction, pain management, HCV, and HIV.

Dr. Ramsey was the recipient of the New York State Commissioner’s Special Recognition Award for contributions to drug user health in NYS in December 2018. Dr. Ramsey was the Distinguished Contributions to Behavioral Medicine Award Recipient, awarded by the American College of Physicians (ACP) in April 2023. Dr. Ramsey was awarded the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine Special Medical Alumni Board Award in October 2023.

Dr. Ramsey is the Immediate Past President for the New York Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (NYSAM) Board of Directors. In addition, she currently serves as Region I Director, representing NYS, on the national American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Board of Directors.

In 2023, Dr. Ramsey received ACP National Award for Distinguished Contributions toBehavioral Medicine and in 2017 was a recipient of the ACP Laureate Award. Dr. Ramsey is currently the Councilor for the Hudson Valley South District of the NY Chapter ACP.

Dr Adam Rodman headshot

Topic:  Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

Dr. Adam Rodman is a general internist and medical educator at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, where he leads the task force for integration of AI into the medical school curriculum. He is also an associate editor at NEJM AI. His research focuses on medical education, clinical reasoning, integration of digital technologies, and human-computer interaction, especially with AI. His first book is entitled "Short Cuts: Medicine," and he is the host of the American College of Physicians podcast Bedside Rounds.

Adam completed his residency in internal medicine at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR, and his fellowship in global health at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center while practicing in Molepolole, Botswana. He lives in Boston with his wife and two young sons.
